Oh I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.

My life’s been ruined, in a good way, by Vendetta.

Production shoot is 2 days away and there are still a number of unsettled stuff.

But that has always been the case. Right.

So far, in my preparation as a director, I’ve been watching quite a number of short films.

There were good ones, bad ones and absolutely shitty ones.

Bottom thing is I learnt something from each and every single one of it.

So there was this Malaysian’s short film project – 15Malaysia – which caught my attention.

15 young Malaysian filmmakers were given a spot to direct a short about the current social issues there.

Here are some good ones -

Meter by Lim Benji is a documentary like short film about a taxi driver who is being interviewed about the problems in the country. What is nice about it is the irony presented in the short. The taxi driver is played by Khairy Jamaludin, the UMNO Youth Chief and there were a hosts of prominent people playing as the passengers. It’s my favorite due to the humor and in-your-nose irony.

House by Linus Chung is a story an Indian boy who is asked to build a model of his dream house for his art homework. It’s a brutal depiction of the condition that is happening to people in real life. While in Singapore, we are lucky to have HDB estates and a fair teaching sector. I can’t really put myself in their shoes – but as a human being I can truly understand the pain and suffering. Watch out for the finale too.

If you want to watch local shorts, you can go to the site above. It’s the finalists for the Panasonic Digital Film Fiesta. 10 local filmmakers have been chosen and were sponsored by Panasonic to make their own short film for the fiesta. My favorites were ‘CHECKmate’ and ‘Beam’. Congratulations to CHECKmate and its director, Yahssir for the win!

Watching all those shorts definitely makes me more enthusiastic about Vendetta.

Banzai!

Dim the damn banzai lights!

Or should I say…

Lights, Camera and

ACTION!
